Cristina Hernández, director of the Women’s Institute, an autonomous body attached to the Ministry of Equality, and Cristina Fernández, director of the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate, have today signed a agreement designed to strengthen Monitoring effective equality between women and men in companies.
Under this agreement, the Women’s Institute and the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate will share information on the Sectors with greater risk of discrimination or vulnerability to work, establish an action procedure for channel complaints on discrimination in the workplace received by the Women's Institute and will develop coordination mechanisms to facilitate the application of equality legislation, especially the Directive on Wage Transparency.
This agreement comes in a context in which the Spanish labor market continues to present important inequalities between women and men, reflected in higher unemployment rates, temporality, partiality, wage gap, bullying and worse working conditions for women, especially in highly feminized and precarious sectors.
Faced with this situation, the Women’s Institute and the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate consolidate a stable framework for collaboration which will allow both bodies to offer a more effective response in identifying and addressing possible discrimination and business breaches of the regulations on effective equality of women and men, and to develop joint actions of prevention, awareness-raising and training.
The agreement will also make it possible to make progress in the application of European legislation by strengthening collaboration between the labour authority and the Women's Institute, an equality body responsible for ensuring effective protection against discrimination on the basis of sex.
In addition, in a coordinated way, they are foreseen Actions in highly feminized sectors Where there are situations of special vulnerability or non-compliance at work and, in this regard, mechanisms have been foreseen to detect inequalities and define priorities for action.
This agreement is also part of the priorities of the Strategic Plan of the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate 2025-2027, which places the fight against discrimination and the guarantee of equality in the employment of women and men among its priority areas of action.
