The joint action of the National Police and the ITSS manages to dismantle a criminal organization dedicated to labor exploitation in Seville

03/02/2026
News

Agents of the National Police in collaboration with the Provincial Labour and Social Security Inspectorate of Seville have dismantled in this province a criminal organization allegedly dedicated to human trafficking and its exploitation as agricultural day labourers. As a result, eight victims have been released and 17 people have been arrested, including leaders of the criminal organization.

The victims, of Romanian nationality, were caught in their country of origin through social media ads by a family clan that promised them employment on different farms in Cantillana (Seville). Once in Spain, the day labourers were housed in subhuman conditions in occupied homes. Since they were not registered in the Social Security, they acquired a debt derived from the cost of displacement, which they then had to pay by working on different farms.

The investigation began in November 2023, thanks to information provided by the Romanian Police, which warned of the existence of a family clan settled in the Sevillian town of Cantillana, dedicated to the labor exploitation of workers in agricultural tasks.

The day labourers endured extremely harsh conditions, as they were forced to work for long hours, from Monday to Sunday and on many occasions under very adverse weather conditions.

In addition, they were housed in subhuman conditions in occupied homes, where they remained at all times controlled by their traffickers. Likewise, they were not registered in the Social Security.
