This Friday, the ITSS received a visit from a delegation of the Government of Moldova, headed by the Minister of Labour, Natalia Plugaru, in the context of European Union Twinning project, to strengthen the capabilities of the Moldovan State Labour Inspectorate (ISM).
The Moldovan delegation was composed of the Moldavian Ambassador to Spain, Eugeniu Revenco; the Counsellor Stela Volontir and the Head of the Department of Policies for the Protection of the Rights of the Child and of Families with Children, Igor Chisca. They were received by the Director-General of the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate, Cristina Fernández González, the Inspector María Ángeles Muñoz Marcos (director of the aforementioned project), the Deputy Director of Institutional Relations and Technical Assistance, Néstor Alejandro Fraile Díaz-Calderay and Laura Hernández, Director of the agency.
This project twinning, started last April, is led by the Spanish Labour and Social Security Inspectorate in consortium with the Slovak Labour Inspectorate.
The objective is to try to align the Moldovan Labour Inspectorate with European standards, in view of the the country's forthcoming accession to the EU, guiding and providing expertise and knowledge to achieve in an ambitious, yet realistic and viable manner, the objective of ‘strengthening the institutional capacities of the State Labour Inspectorate to enforce labour standards in the Republic of Moldova in accordance with EU best practices’.
This objective will be achieved by complying with ILO standards and the EU acquis, promoting the effective and sustainable application of new legal standards, addressing health and safety at work and improving the employment and working conditions of employees and, of course, by creating a Efficient work inspection system to effectively combat undeclared work and to ensure, through advocacy, prevention and control activities, the creation of safe working environments and prosperous, resilient and inclusive labour markets.
During the meeting in Madrid, the director of the project, María Ángeles Muñoz Marcos, congratulated the Moldovan minister for the successes achieved and explained the next steps in which the Spanish ITSS will work to give effect to the new content of Law 140 on Labour Inspection recently approved in Moldova.
The director general of the agency, Cristina Fernández, thanked the presence of the Moldovan delegation and took advantage of the visit to briefly refer to the operation of the ITSS. In addition, he pointed out that at all times the ITSS will be on the “side” of Moldova, “collaborating to create a strong Inspection, with inspectors of the highest competence and training, since from the beginning we have been clear that your success is our success, today and always, because what characterizes this Twinning project is that it will create strong and lasting ties, a true brotherhood between Spain and Moldova”.
Finally, the Moldovan Minister of Labour reiterated her thanks to the Spanish ITSS for the invaluable support in the implementation of the Twinning project and highlighted how the experience of the ITSS in Spain is proving to be most useful on the road to Moldavia's accession to the European Union.
