The joint action of the Labour Inspectorate and the National Police in a hotel in the Balearic Islands uncovers 64 irregular workers

On March 25th, the joint action of the National Police of Foreigners of the Manacor Police Station, the Provincial Brigade of Foreigners and Borders of the Superior Headquarters and the Inspection of Labour and Social Security in the Balearic Islands, carried out in a work of a hotel in Cala Millor, allowed to locate 64 workers in an irregular situation in Spain.

The inspection, in which agents of the Civil Guard as well as the Air Unit of the Police also participated through the use of drones, allowed to control a wide perimeter and simultaneously examine two buildings where About 400 people work.

The coordinated work of the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate and the National Police in the fight against irregular work and in defence of workers’ rights allowed the following interim results: 42 controlled companies, 387 identified workers, 64 of them in an irregular situation, as well as Three detainees, of Pakistani nationality, for documentary falsehood.

In addition, sanctions on companies in which irregular workers were located could reach the local authorities. 640,000 euros, to which should be added the sanctions for having Spanish workers, without having registered them in the Social Security.

In the coming weeks, and coinciding with the upcoming opening of the hotel and services season in the region, the Balearic Labour and Social Security Inspectorate will continue to carry out inspections of works to detect breaches by companies that illegally hire workers and sometimes take advantage of their situation of vulnerability.
